How to Use Library Spaces

Details about how to use Library spaces, including entrance protocols, classrooms, and study spaces are below. The procedures for Summer 2021 are the same as the spring semester, however, library hours may be different.

Access Protocols

  • Entrance to NYU Libraries is restricted to NYU cardholders with an appropriate face covering and a valid daily COVID-19 screener. No visitors will be granted access to library buildings.

  • Physical library collections are closed to direct access and browsing. For more information about accessing physical library collections, please visit the Collections Access page.

  • IFA, ISAW, and Brause library spaces are open to their students only. Courant is closed. Please see the library locations directory for details.

  • All public computer stations in the Libraries are unavailable.

  • All equipment loans of laptops, peripherals, etc. are unavailable until further notice.

Classrooms in Bobst

  • Bobst Library will host University-scheduled classes.

  • Please use the waiting, transition, and queueing spaces as indicated on wall and floor signage.

  • Face coverings are required at all times.

  • Assigned seating required in all classrooms. Please visit the NYU Classroom Seating Assignments page for detailed instructions.

  • Classroom furniture is arranged to ensure physical distancing for both students and faculty. Learn more about how NYU has arranged your classroom.

Quiet Study and Remote Learning Spaces

  • Use of Scan & Reserve on the NYU Mobile app is required for all Study and Learning Spaces. All spaces are managed by the University. Read the overview of guidelines and how to scan & reserve.
    • Book spaces in advance
    • Check in/out of spaces by scanning an on-site QR code

  • Quiet Study Spaces
    • Bobst and Dibner Libraries
    • Available for walk-in or advanced reservations
    • Dissertation Writers’ Rooms are available as Quite Study spaces

  • Remote Learning Spaces
    • Bobst Library only
    • Can be used for attending a class online or for studying
    • Available for walk-in or advanced reservations
  • Descriptions of specific spaces available at Bobst and Dibner Libraries.

  • Only individual seats in the Libraries’ spaces can be reserved. Entire individual or group study room reservations are not available.

  • Look for signs that indicate seating assignments and distancing requirements.

  • Face coverings are required.

  • Please use the hand and surface sanitizer, as available.

  • Support for NYU’s Scan & Reserve app.

Printing and Scanning

  • No printing or scanning available at Bobst Library.

  • Limited printing and scanning available at Dibner Library, 3rd floor.

  • Visit the NYU Print Service: Print Station locations to find out where to print on campus.

Elevators and Stairs

  • Elevators are available. Look for signs that indicate the maximum number of people allowed per elevator.

  • Stairs are open. Look for signs that indicate traffic flow direction (e.g. up or down).

  • Social distancing and face coverings are required in elevators and on stairs.

Restrooms and Facilities


  • Restrooms are available. Look for signs indicating the maximum number of people per restroom.

  • Social distancing and face coverings are required while waiting for the restroom to become available and while using the restroom.

  • The frequency of cleaning has been increased for all restrooms.

Snack Lounges

  • Bobst LL1-16 is a designated Quick Stop area. Student lounges are unavailable until further notice.

  • Vending machines are available.
