Digitize At-Risk Library Materials in the South Caucasus Region Fund

The Digital South Caucasus Collection has established a successful model for cooperative preservation of the rich cultural heritage of the South Caucasus. It also demonstrates significant potential for broadening access to scholarship in the ancient world, both domestically and internationally. A second phase of this project could expand its scope to encompass the entire South Caucasus region, with a particular focus on at-risk materials, collections, and libraries in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Revolutionizing Publishing Archaeological Data Fund

The Revolutionizing Publishing Archaeological Data fund will allow the Libraries to build a program to publish at-risk text, images, plans, and datasets from the NYU Institute for the Study of the Ancient World’s (ISAW) vast portfolio of records of archaeological excavations. This project aims to change how archaeological data is published, making it easier to share archaeological data and ensuring it is preserved for the future.

Preserving At-Risk Websites Fund

Websites are a critical information source for scholarship, but web archiving—collecting, preserving, and providing access to websites—is resource-intensive for libraries. The Preserving At-Risk Websites Fund aims to build NYU Libraries’ capacity to preserve at-risk sites by funding a short-term consultant to develop a plan for integrating web archiving into current workflows.

Digitization of NYU-Centered Materials Fund

Funding for this project will allow us to digitize NYU yearbooks, course bulletins, and other University-produced publications that catalog and commemorate the NYU experience. These materials build on the close connections between our alumni and the University. Digitization will enable alumni and others easier and more open access to these wonderful collections.

Preserving At-Risk Video Recordings Fund

This fund ensures that videos will be accessible for future generations of students and scholars. The Libraries need to preserve open-reel video tapes from the Special Collections that are at risk of becoming unplayable soon. Open-reel video is an analog recording format that requires special equipment and handling, and is largely obsolete, making its preservation both urgent and challenging.
