The Avery Fisher Center (AFC) has collections of videos, music recordings, and reserve scores available for loan to students, faculty, and staff.

Physical Materials

All AFC physical materials are listed in the NYU Libraries Catalog(opens in a new window).

From the catalog search bar select NYU Avery Fisher Center (A/V materials from the drop-down menu. To narrow the search results to only audio, video, or scores, use the “Resource Type” filter.

Onsite Materials

Onsite items are labeled as “Available at NYU Bobst Avery Fisher Center” in the catalog. Items are available on a first come, first served basis.

How to Borrow Onsite Items

  • Locate the item’s call number, listed after the availability information in the catalog.
  • Bring the call number to the AFC service desk on Floor 7 of Bobst Library during [open hours.
  • If you cannot find what you are looking for in the catalog, ask our staff for assistance, either in person at the service desk or by email at afc@nyu.edu.

Offsite Materials

Large portions of the AFC’s collections are housed offsite, and must be requested for delivery. These items are labeled as “Available at NYU Avery Fisher Center Offsite” in the catalog.

How to Borrow Offsite Items

  • Users should log into the catalog see request options available to them.
  • From the item’s catalog entry, use the “Request Physical Copy” link in the Get It section and select a pick up location.
    • Offsite DVDs and CDs are eligible for NYU Bobst Locker Delivery.
    • VHS tapes and vinyl discs must be picked up at the NYU Bobst Avery Fisher Center desk.

Digital Materials

Digital streaming material is available through our Audio and Music Collections databases(opens in a new window), and Video Collections databases(opens in a new window). These databases can also be found in the online catalog(opens in a new window), and are available 24/7 for users with an active NYU NetID login.

Video and Audio for Course Reserves

Access to our reserve DVDs, CDs, and other physical media is available for eligible users.

For distance learning, our [Music guide] (https://guides.nyu.edu/music/audio-streaming-collections){: .external} and Video Streaming guide(opens in a new window) provide links to a host of online resources, including streaming film and music collections from Kanopy, Swank Digital Campus, Alexander Street, and many others.

Faculty who wish to place videos, audio recordings, or music scores on reserve for courses should use the online request procedure.

Loan Periods

For NYU users all DVDs, CDs, LPs, and other media, loans are:

  • Due 10 days from checkout date
  • Eligible for renewal
  • Limited to 10 items

Late Fines

After 10 days overdue items will be billed as lost, and users will have an AFC block put on their library account.

  • For lost items you will be charged the cost of replacement.
  • Please speak with a full-time staff member for further details.

A courtesy email notice is sent 3 days before the due date, after which daily reminders are sent after an item is overdue.
