Our Resource Sharing and Delivery services (RSDS) department, which includes Interlibrary Loan, is an essential department of the library where we exchange and share materials among libraries. We collaborate with local, state, regional, national, and international libraries to obtain materials outside of NYU’s collection. NYU is involved in multiple library consortia, facilitating access to a broad range of materials and sharing NYU’s collections.

Our Services

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan is a way for libraries to share materials among one another, expanding access to resources and sharing resources with others. ILL consists of borrowing and lending physical and electronic materials so that library users are not limited to only the collections at their home libraries. NYU faculty, students, and staff are eligible to place interlibrary loan requests.

NYU users with affiliations at the Law, Dental, or Medical school have access to a dedicated ILL service at the Law Library or Lapidus Health Sciences Library. These users should submit requests through their home library.

Document Delivery

Document delivery is a library service in which an NYU user can request a scan of an article or specific book chapter through the catalog. This service allows convenient access to materials for patrons who live far from an NYU library campus. More information can be found on our Collections Access page.

Home Delivery

This service allows users to have materials mailed to them via UPS for those who are unable to come to the library. Only General book and journal collections at Bobst, Dibner, Offsite, Brause, and Institute of Fine Arts (IFA) material are eligible for Home Delivery. Delivery of items typically arrives within 5 to 9 days and can be returned via mail or in-person to Bobst. These services are currently only available for NYU faculty and PhD students.

Delivery Services

RSDS is responsible for moving library materials between NYU’s various local and global campus libraries and consortial partners, as well as facilitating shipping for resource sharing services. Our department receives materials from lenders and ships materials from our collection daily. We exchange materials locally, nationally, and internationally. Some of our courier services include UPS, USPS, DHL, and FedEx. Our staff and student workers take pride in maintaining and processing shipments as part of their everyday responsibilities. Please feel free to contact us at lib-deliveryservices@nyu.edu.

Microfilm Services

Our Microforms center at Bobst holds a diverse and wide collection of newspapers, magazines, and academic journals as well as educational and government documents. Microforms are small photographic images for storage, reading, or printing. We offer three formats of microforms: microfilm (on reels) and microfiche (sheets), and microprint (cards). The services are only by appointment and on a first-come, first-served basis. Requests can be made through the library catalog or through ILL if available or lendable from other libraries. Currently enrolled NYU students and active faculty and staff can access these services. Non-NYU researchers can also make appointments to view material through the Special Collections department.
