We specialize in services that enable the creation, provision, and sharing of knowledge across NYU and beyond. Our departments comprise experts in collection development, access services, resource sharing, media services, print operations, scholarly communications, and digital scholarship. We serve our research community through education, advocacy, policy, collection development, and user-focused services. We strive to foster a more open and equitable scholarly ecosystem, from working with authors and publishers to creating infrastructure that enables libraries to build new collections and share resources broadly.

Open Knowledge

The Open Knowledge department provides consultation, instruction, and infrastructure to support scholars in navigating copyright, publishing their work openly, and engaging with creative and emerging forms of scholarship.

Access, Delivery, and Resource Sharing Services

The Access, Delivery, and Resource Sharing Services (ADRSS) department supports user access to library collections and resources at NYU Libraries and through partner institutions worldwide. ADRSS Departments include:

  • Access Services: Supports access for eligible NYU and external community members and troubleshoots access problems.
  • Circulation and Course Material Services: Manages the flow of materials in and out of the library, including checking out or returning a book, renewing a loan, or making a course material request.
  • Resource Sharing and Delivery Services (RSDS): Ensures that library materials are efficiently delivered to library users, including books and documents. Supports interlibrary loans between libraries and manages the sharing of materials between NYU library branches.

Avery Fisher Center for Music and Media

The Avery Fisher Center is the home of the library’s audio visual collections, and works with Collection Development to oversee the general streaming media collections of the library. The Center has study rooms and work spaces for users to experience our collections individually or in groups. The Avery Fisher Center is also home to the Feldstein Immersion Room, our state of the art viewing and listening room.

Collection Development

Collection Development identifies the information resource needs of University students, faculty, and researchers, selects materials and methods to meet those needs, and maintains the collections we’ve built.
