All library visitors must be sponsored by a current and active NYU faculty member or employee before their visit, as per the University’s visitor policy.

Members of NYU Libraries-Affiliated Programs are not considered visitors and should follow the instructions on this page to gain access.

Please request access at least two business days before your preferred visit dates. We cannot accommodate walk-in visitors.

Visitors

To apply for access, your NYU sponsor must submit an access request form through JRNY, NYU’s visitor management system. If you have questions about the application process contact your sponsor.

  • If you are visiting Bobst Library, your sponsor must greet you at the entrance.

  • NYU students may not sponsor visitors to the NYU Libraries.

Members of NYU Libraries-Affiliated Programs

There are a number of ways researchers from select institutions can access the Libraries based on affiliation and research need. However, as a private institution, NYU Libraries is unable to offer members of the public access to our general collections.

Special Collections and Government Documents are open to all researchers with a qualified need.

Researchers

Special Collections, and U.S. and U.N. Collections are open to researchers upon explanation of research needs. Researchers must register in advance for access.

NYU Alumni

NYU Retirees

Please arrange access with your school’s Human Resources Officer.

METRO Referral Card

As a member of the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO), NYU honors METRO card referrals. You may request a METRO card referral at one of 270 member libraries and library systems in New York City and Westchester County. A METRO referral card allows an individual a one-time-only visit to a library to use a specified item in the library.
