The Reference Services department engages NYU library patrons in finding, navigating, and using resources, and tools to address their research needs. We are committed to providing responsive services, flexible access to information and resources, facilitating a shared engaging learning experience, and adapting to the evolving research needs of the NYU community.

At reference services, you can get help with narrowing and focusing research topics, accessing and navigating databases, journals and other e-resources, using the catalog, developing a search strategy and general library and research related questions.

How to get help

Research Consultations

Make an appointment for a one-on-one consultation with a subject librarian to discuss a research project or paper. Virtual consultations are available.

Workshops

Reference Services also provides workshops around research readiness, tools and resources, and NYU Libraries’ spaces and services. These workshops are always free and open to the NYU community. Check the Library Workshops & Events page to see upcoming offerings!

Outreach

Reference Services conducts various outreach initiatives around campus and in the libraries, including Ask a Librarian pop-ups in student centers, research coworking clinics that provide collaborative productivity sessions in Bobst Library, and other fun ways to engage with NYU students and faculty. Contact us to schedule a library reference pop-up table in your school/department, cultural center, dorm, or other student centered spaces.
