Access to Columbia University Libraries

Graduate and undergraduate students, full-time faculty and staff from NYU may access the libraries at Columbia, Barnard, Union Theological Seminary, Jewish Theological Seminary, and Teachers College upon display of a currently valid ID card.
To obtain reading privileges at participating Columbia University Libraries, present your valid NYU identification card at the Library Information Office in Butler Library where an access card will be issued to you.
While most libraries will provide unrestricted reading privileges, there are restrictions on the use of the following libraries at Columbia:
Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library
Reading privileges are limited to New York University graduate students and faculty in art programs; other NYU students, faculty, or staff may be given a referral to Avery by an NYU librarian when the item is sought is held only at Avery.
Health Science Library
Reading privileges are limited to NYU Medical and Dental faculty.
Law Library
Reading privileges are limited to NYU Law School faculty and students.
Faculty and PhD Borrowing
MaRLI: Manhattan Research Library Initiative enables current NYU doctoral students, full-time faculty and librarians to access and borrow materials from Columbia University Libraries and New York Public Library Research Libraries. For more information and to register visit our MaRLI page.
