Background

In alignment with the NYU Libraries value to encourage open access, we are committed to making our metadata as open as possible to enhance the discovery of library resources and allow users to repurpose metadata with clearly defined license conditions.

Current Policies

  • Bibliographic records created by NYU in OCLC (e.g. MARC 040 $a ZYU) may be used under a Creative Commons CC0 license.

  • Bibliographic records derived from the shared OCLC WorldCat database are used by NYU Libraries under an Open Data Commons ODC-BY license in accordance with OCLC community norms, and can be used under ODC-BY with a credit to OCLC.

  • KBART files describing NYU-produced Open Access digital collections are available under a Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal license, meaning there are no restrictions on use and no requirements for attribution.

  • Archival description from NYU Special Collections, Poly Archives & Special Collections, and NYU Abu Dhabi Archives & Special Collections is available for use under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC-BY-NC 4.0), except where otherwise noted. You may share or adapt this metadata for non-commercial purposes with attribution to the original author(s).
