We are happy to report that the NYU Libraries will resume full operations for the upcoming fall semester, with renewed access to spaces and materials, computing and seating, and in-person service points back in action.

On August 23, full services and space access will resume at Bobst Library, Dibner Library, the Institute of Fine Arts, the Avery Fisher Center for Music and Media, and the Jack Brause Library, with access to the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World and Courant resuming soon after.

Here’s what you can expect from us this fall semester.

Safety and Health

Spaces and Services

  • Full access to the stacks, and spaces for study and research at most locations will resume on Monday, August 23. Check the hours of operation for details.

  • Service points and help desks will be open, and in-person assistance will be available. Most services will offer a remote option.

    • Service points open for fall: Reference desk, Circulation desks, Bobst Library Computer Center (BLCC), Bobst Research Commons (Data Services, and Digital Studio), and the Library Privileges window.

  • Some services will require appointments: Special Collections, microfilm, one-on-one research consultations, and instruction services.

  • Most study areas will be open, but there may be limited availability for reservable rooms.
    • Group Study rooms will be available in Bobst, Brause, and Dibner libraries. Most will be reservable online.
    • Most Bobst Individual Study rooms will be closed. A limited number of Graduate Individual Study rooms will be available for walk-in use.
    • Dibner Library Individual Study rooms will be open and reservable online.
  • Lounges and bathrooms will be open

  • Printing, scanning, and computer access will resume

  • Event and exhibit spaces will be open

  • Bobst computing labs (LL1) will be closed


  • In-person access to print collections will resume on August 23. We will continue to offer multiple delivery options, including contactless locker delivery, small-scale scanning, and other delivery options.

  • Access to in-copyright material in the HathiTrust emergency digital collections will end on Friday, August 20, followed by resumption of in-person access to print collections on Monday, August 23.

  • Accessibility Services support for collection access will continue.

  • Over the summer, the Ask a Librarian service will continue to provide online help via chat, email, text, and virtual appointments.
