New York University alumni, neighborhood residents, and other members of the public can gain access to the Elmer Holmes Bobst Library with a 100% tax-deductible gift to Friends of Bobst Library.

If you are part of NYU’s Class of 2018, you can get Reader membership for $45. This gift can only be made online. See the FAQs at the bottom of the page for more information.

Membership expiration dates:

  • July 31, 2018 for gifts made 5/1/17 - 9/30/17

  • December 31, 2018 for gifts made 10/1/17- 1/31/18

  • April 30, 2019 for gifts made 2/1/18 - 4/30/2018

  • July 31, 2019 for gifts made 5/1/18 - 9/30/18

For same-day access:

Sign up and make your gift at the Library Privileges desk, located to your left upon entering Bobst Library, to receive same-day access.

Please bring a government-issued photo ID. Neighborhood residents are also required to show proof of address to receive a discounted rate.

Bobst Library is located at 70 Washington Square South, New York, NY 10012.

The library is open to Friends of Bobst Library member during regular hours (opens in a new window) from 7am to 1am, 7 days a week. (Please note, Bookworm and Scholar level members must first visit the Library Privileges desk in order to receive a day pass for entry.)

The Elmer Holmes Bobst Library offers:

  • Onsite access to thousands of electronic resources and databases and 10 floors of open-stack shelving.

  • Wireless internet access and over 150 computer stations.

  • Convenient Greenwich Village location with inspiring views of Washington Square Park.

In addition, all Friends of Bobst Library members will receive:

  • Invitations to library events including exhibition openings, receptions, and author readings.

  • A subscription to the NYU Libraries newsletter, Progressions.
