Using BobCat, NYU Libraries Catalog
What's in BobCat
BobCat is the online catalog for NYU Libraries, and includes items (books,
cd's, music scores, dissertations, and journals) from NYU, affiliated, and consortium libraries.
What's not in BobCat?
You can find Journals in BobCat, but NOT articles within
the journals. To find articles, use databases or e-journals.
Search BobCat
TIP The camera icon indicates that the link before it goes to a graphic illustrating the search.
By Title or Author - Phrase Search
Select
Phrase Search
when
you know the title, author, etc. of the item you’re looking for.
- Enter the title, or author (last name, first name) etc in the search
box
- Select title author, etc from the drop
down index
- Click on Submit Search
- From the linked alphabetical list
click on the item you want
- Select the item title or author you want
- Submit Search
- Get the item:
Once you've found the item you want, click on the links till you get a grid with call number and status information. This information tells you whether the item is available to take out, and where the item is located in the library.
By subject - Keyword Search
Select Keyword Search if you want to search by subject
- Type your keyword(s) or phrase(s) in the search boxes provided
- For each keyword (you need not enter more than one keyword) , select
an index to search
- Select the appropriate Boolean operator between each keyword and phrase
you enter
- Submit Search
- Get the item:
Once you've found the item you want, click on the hyperlinks till you get a grid with call number and status information. This information tells you whether the item is available to take out, and where the item is located in the library.
By format
You can limit your search in Keyword Search .
- Select the grey limit button
on the left of the screen
- Limit
by publication date, format, or language (you can select all
three)
- Set Limits
- Perform your search
- Get the item:
