The Avery Fisher Center (AFC) offers video, music, and reserve scores. These materials are available to faculty, staff and students.

Borrowing AFC Materials

All of the AFC’ materials are in BobCat. To borrow a reserve item, first find the call number of the item you wish to check out. You can use the “Limit to” field in BobCat to narrow your search results to “Video”, “Audio”, or “Score”. Ask our staff for assistance if you cannot find the item you are looking for in the catalog.

Once you have found the call number, write it down and bring it to the AFC’s service desk. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before we close when checking out.

Returning AFC Materials

Checked-out materials must be returned to the AFC service desk when the center is open. If the AFC is closed, a drop box will be available outside our doors. Do not put our items in the book drop boxes on Floor 1 of Bobst Library.

Requesting AFC Materials

When requesting materials from the AFC, you’ll want to make sure an item is available on your chosen date. With our Schedule a Loan form, faculty, PhD candidates and administrators can schedule specific pickup times for AFC materials. Other library patrons may be granted scheduled loans under special circumstances.

Videos shelved inside the AFC require 3 business hours to process for requests placed Monday through Friday, and 24 business hours for requests placed on Saturday and Sunday. Allow for an additional 1 to 3 business days for items located off site.

You will receive an email when your requested item has arrived at the AFC.

Accessing Off-site Materials

If a material is housed off site, use the links on the “GetIt” or “Holdings” pages on BobCat to request the item (accessed by clicking on the item’s title in the search results or by its call number on the “Details” page).

Certain scores are housed off site as well, but they are all in the Main Collection and will arrive at Circulation on Floor 1 of Bobst Library.

Off-site items require 1 to 3 business days to arrive, the longest wait being over the weekend.

Undergraduate, master’s and staff patrons must watch VHS tapes on the AFC’s equipment and cannot take them out of the Center.
