Find a Book
From the Library homepage, you can do a BobCat search using
- the main search box visible on the homepage (good for basic BobCat searches), or
- the BobCat Library Catalog link below the search box (good for limiting your search to a particular NYU Library, etc)
TIP: You can also access BobCat by selecting the books link under the Library homepage Find Resources tab.
If you've selected the Books link under Find Resources, click on the Begin a BobCat Session link circled below
This screen gives you options to search within specific collections in BobCat. It also provides you with buttons to choose either Phrase Search or Keywork Search. A Phrase Search is generally used for searching known items (like titles and authors you know).A Keyword Search is used as a browse search--to explore what topics are available.
The Phrase Search screen below is the default screen.
Enter a known item into the search box and select an option from the drop down menu. For this example, we'll search for the book title The Geography Behind History. Enter the title and select Submit Search. If the book is available, it will be in the alphabetical results list.
Click on the title in the results list to get information about where it is shelved. If there is more than one version available, choose one
Scroll down the page after you've selected a title, and you'll get information about where the book is held. This information includes the NYU Libraries the book is available from; the Call Number (which will tell you on what floor the book is located); and the status. If the book is available, status will indicate this.
To get information about where in the Library the book is located, click on the Call Number link. Floors corresponding to Call Numbers will be listed.
