Searching the Web | web directories

Directories are guides compiled by human indexers who assign subject headings to describe the contents of web sites. Searching a web directory is similar to browsing the table of contents of a book or the telephone yellow pages. One tries to decide how someone else might have classified information by browsing categories.

Yahoo.com, like CINAHL, organizes information in hierarchical categories. It is possible to locate Web sites in Yahoo by browsing (or "drilling down") through the hierarchies.
