Notes:

Early American Newspapers is a collection of 18th and early 19th century newspapers from all parts of the 13 colonies and the United States. It is in two formats: it originally appeared in "microprint" on 5"x8" opaque cards; lately it has been released on microfilm. (Microfilm collection #350) Bobst has both collections, complete. The microprint collection included only issues of newspapers published before 1821, but it included several New York City newspapers not mentioned in this list. The microfilm collection includes some newspapers published during the 1820s and later. Both collections include many newspapers from outside New York City, none of which are mentioned in this list.

Both collections are arranged by colony or state, then by city, then by the title of the newspaper. See the checklist "Early American Newspapers: 1. List by Title; 2. List by Colony/State and City" (in the Microforms Room). Chronological Tables of American Newspapers, 1690-1820 [Bobst Ref 1 Z6951.L3] gives a complete list of city papers, year by year, for the era covered by Early American Newspapers.

The "American Periodical Series" (Microfilm collection #277) contains American magazines of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Series I covers magazines that began publication before 1800; Series II, magazines that began publication between 1800 and 1850; and Series III, magazines that began publication between 1850 and 1900. Online version available via ProQuest databases.
