    A microfiche set, ABEPI is a compilation of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American biographical information from biographical sources published between 1600 and 1950. The arrangement is alphabetical by name of individual. The Indice biográfico de España, Portugal e Iberoamérica (Bobst REF 1 DP58.I52) is an index to the first series of the ABEPI. The index for the 2nd series (Bobst REF 1 DP58 .I52 1997) is on CD-ROM and via the web at http://www.biblio.tu-bs.de/acwww25u/wbi_en/. It provides the user with direct access to the bibliographical source either in the original book form or in the microfiche version, giving the fiche number and the number of the frame on which the entry is to be found.

    Contents: Pamphlets, periodicals, and posters from religious, social, and political organizations advocating the interests of Brazil's "movimentos populares". Subject headings are: Agrarian reform, Blacks, Children's Issues (set two only), Ecology (set two only), Education and Communication Issues, Human and Minority Rights, Indians, Labor and Laboring Classes, Political Parties and Issues, Religion and Theology, Urban Issues, Women. The set for 1987-1989 includes newly acquired pre-1987 items. In Portuguese, around 4300 items in all. For a more detailed description of the collection's aims and contents see the introductions to the index reels.
    Access: The first reel of each set contains separate indexes for pamphlets, periodicals, and posters; each index is divided by subject, title, and publisher. It is also practical to scan directly through the items on a particular subject, as, for instance, pamphlets on "urban issues" are placed together on the microfilm reels.

    Contents: A wide variety of books and periodicals relating to Puerto Rico, on history, literature, social conditions, etc. Most items date from 1950-1970, with a few from as early as 1929, nearly all in Spanish. About 1500 titles in all. Based on Gonzalo Velazquez' Biblioteca (see Access, below).
    Access: The first reel of the collection is the Collection catalog: Velazquez, Gonzalo. Biblioteca de Obras Puertorriqueñas, arranged by subject. Headings follow the Dewey system, including subjects such as "Poesía - historia y crítica", "Ensayos", "Puerto Rico - descripción y viajes", etc. Item numbers for the microfilm collection are listed to the right of each entry.

    Contents: Pamphlet collection relating to the Spanish Civil War, includes political tracts, government publications, etc. Many English language pamphlets are included as well as Spanish. Most items are from Spain, but America and other countries are well represented. Filmed from the collection at Harvard College's Widener Library. 680 items in all.

    Arrangement: Alphabetically by author and title in two segments: 16th-18th centuries and 19th century. The publisher's guide assigns book numbers to individual works for easy access.
    Contents: Spanish language works by woman authors dating from the 16th-19th centuries. Literary, religious, and historical works are included. The items may have significance both in themselves and as expressing the outlook and social condition of the women of the period. Filmed from the collection of the Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid, around 600 items in all. For a more complete description of the collection see the publisher's guide, listed under Access, below.
