News Indexes

  • Lexis-Nexis: Full text of newspaper, magazine and journal articles.

    To Search all French-Language News Sources

    1. Click "Guided News Search" tab (top middle of page)
    2. In the "Select a News Category" drop-down box, select "Non-English Language News"
    3. In the "Select a news source" box, select "French Language News"
    4. Enter your search terms.
    5. In the Date Range area, either select a date range from the drop-down box or type in your date parameters.
    6. If you want to specify a certain news source title (e.g. Le Monde) type that into the "Search this publication title" box.
    7. Example: keywords "sida and afrique and traitement"

    To Browse by Newspaper Title

    1. Click "sources" on top right menu bar.
    2. Type your Newspaper title (leave off initial article) or click on the alphabet to browse the alphabetical source list.
    3. If your title appears, click "about this title" or "search this title"
    4. Example: Le Monde

  • L'Actualité Dans la Presse: Produced by the Bibliothèque Centre Pompidou. Contains "articles sur l’actualité culturelle et sociale internationale issus du dépouillement sélectif d’une centaine de journaux français." Citations only.

Scholarly Journal Indexes

  • FRANCIS: An index to multilingual, multidisciplinary information in the humanities, social sciences, economics, religion, the history of art, and literature from 1984 to the present. Note: this is a journal index. It does not include newspapers or magazines. No full text. After you connect:

    1. click the radio boxes for the years of coverage you want in Francis.
    2. at top right, click on the "Open Selected Databases" button.
    3. type in your search or select "Search Builder" for additional search options.
    4. Note: you can search in french or english
    5. Example: search for words anywhere:"opera" and "france"
    6. In results list click the "Link to SFX" link to see if full text is available or if Bobst Library owns the journal

  • Modern Language Association Bibliography: Citations (no full text) to articles in scholarly journals about language and literature.
    1. For simple Keyword searching, use basic search
    2. For more search options, use advanced search
    3. Example: keyword search for "saint-exupery and prince" or "saint-exupery and war"
    4. In results list click the "Link to SFX" link to see if full text is available or if Bobst Library owns the journal or book.
