STUBBING Stubbing is used to build up a spine when parts or pockets of differing size are bound with the text. This is done by adding an appropriate thickness of perforated pages which are later separated from the binding leaving a inch stubbing. Without the stubbing, the spine and shoulders of a book would eventually collapse.
