REBACK Spines are often damaged because of rough handling or structural problems with the binding itself. When this happens and the text block is still firmly attached to the book cover by the endsheets, the damaged spine can be replaced with a new one in a procedure called a reback. This cut-away model displays the process for treating the text block, the structure of the new spine piece and how it is adhered to the book.
