MEASUREMENT OF pH Before an item is deacidified, its pH is measured using these pH indicator strips. They are available for different pH ranges with a variety of levels of accuracy. The strip changes color according to the chart shown on the box when put in contact with the moistened surface of a document. In addition to pH testing, the media need to be tested for sensitivity to the deacidification solution. Many color pigments are pH sensitive, so deacidification is not an option for those items.
