OVERSEWING: THE PROCESS After removing the covers, 1/8 inch of the text block is cut off at the spine in preparation for sewing. Sewing machine operators feed small bundles of the volume into the machine. Threaded needles pass through the first bundle at the binding edge, making multiple holes. As the following bundles are added, the needles pass through them an partially penetrate the previous bundle sot that all of the bundles are interconnected.
