Although well-intended, home repairs can create more problems than solutions. For instance, the electric tape used on the volume shown here is made of chemically unstable, non-archival materials. As the tape ages, the adhesive decomposes and parts of it are absorbed into the paper, leaving harmful residues that contribute to the deterioration of the paper.
