HAND SEWING Hand sewing is one of several binding options at the commercial bindery, albeit an expensive one. It differs somewhat from the type of hand sewing done in the librarys in-house lab. For example, at the commercial bindery, an adhesive is applied to the spine over the sewing for added strength, as seen here. Books hand sewn in the Conservation Lab are generally too fragile to endure a heavily glued spine.
