DOUBLE FAN ADHESIVE BINDING In the absence of signatures, double fan adhesive binding glues single sheets together. Using the double fan method, glue is applied to the spine edge of a text block first fanning it in one direction and then the other. Double fan adhesive binding is always preferable to adhesive binding because it allows a more generous distribution of the glue and results in a stronger, more secure bond. Two examples of this method are depicted here. In one the procedure is performed by hand; the other illustrates the use of the Ehlerman Machine.
