| COMMERCIAL BINDING | Commercial binding is a mass production operation that involves machinery and a great deal of heavy handling. New books can usually take that kind of stress, but the more fragile books cannot; therefore, what we send for commercial binding is limited to new books receiving first-time binding and rebinds that still have good paper, a strong text block and simply need new covers. Commercial binding will always be one of the strongest elements in out preservation program. Maintaining the physical integrity of our collection through preservation-conscious binding practices is an important preventive method for preserving our books. |
