Group Study Room Reservations

The Bobst Library Group Study Room reservation system now has a new look and feel! You will notice the search box has been moved to the left of the screen and search results will display in the center. The font size has been decreased, but can be changed using the buttons on the upper right corner of the screen.

The system now allows for greater search functionality. If you are unable to find a reservation which meets your search criteria, a list of all our rooms will display, with the reason why the room is not available. You can then either re-search with a new group size, or if there is a time conflict, select "change" in one of the "rooms with issues" to determine when a given room is available.

You are now also able to cancel your reservation online and re-book right away.

Bobst Library Group Study Rooms are available to reserve only by members of the NYU community. For more information or to reserve a room, please visit:
http://library.nyu.edu/services/group_study.html

Thank you, and happy reserving!

Bobst & Offsite Storage

Faculty, students and staff returning to campus this fall may notice that the stacks of Bobst Library are a little less crowded. This is the result of the library's ongoing efforts to identify low-circulation materials that can be shelved at our offsite storage facility. Low-circulation titles are carefully reviewed by the library's subject specialists to identify those items that can be shelved offsite without inconveniencing library users.

This process allows us to make space on the shelves of Bobst for the thousands of needed new books we purchase every year. It also enables us to plan renovated and refurbished spaces that accommodate the many ways students and faculty are using the library.

When your search in BobCat indicates that an item you need is located offsite, just click on "Request" to have the book retrieved and held for you at Bobst Circulation. Periodical articles will be scanned for you by offsite staff and delivered to you electronically, and books will be held for you at the Circulation Desk. Most items will be ready for you within 24 hours. You will receive an email notification, when your book is ready to be picked up at Circulation or your article is ready to be to be viewed.

New Database Page on Libraries' Web

There's a new improved way to access the Libraries' electronic resources!

We've reorganized the "Articles via Databases" page on the Libraries' website to include many discipline-specific categories to assist you with your research. By using these categories, you will see recommended databases and electronic resources selected by the Libraries' selectors. In many cases, you will also be able perform a combined (or "federated") search of these databases.

If you do not pick a category, the default is "General Search," which searches Proquest, Wilson Omni and JSTOR.

The A-Z list of databases has been enhanced with detailed descriptions.

The list of "popular databases" has been made more prominent.

Access the new page by choosing the "Articles via Databases" link on the Library homepage, http://library.nyu.edu or by going directly to http://arch.library.nyu.edu.

Additional new features, which will be included in Library workshops in the Fall, include saving and exporting individual citations, searching and sorting by self-labeled citations, and creating sets of federated databases to both search and embed in any web page.

A questions / comments link is available for your feedback.

Self-service Checkout at Bobst Library!

Bobst Library is pleased to announce the introduction of QuickCheck self-checkout machines. Library users may now check out books 24 hours a day. To use QuickCheck, you must have registered your library card at your home library's circulation desk. If you have previously checked out materials then you are registered. You must also be in good standing with the library - meaning you should not have any blocks on you circulation record, or owe more than $5 in fines.

Please stop by the library circulation desk to try out this exciting new service.

Bobst Library Lower Level 1 Renovation and Expansion

In order to serve the growing academic needs of the community, we are renovating a former staff area on Bobst Library's Lower Level 1. The renovation will add classrooms, graduate student spaces, more seating and new lockers. Plus, the Lower Level 1 restrooms will be completely renovated and expanded. This is part of a University-wide initiative to upgrade academic and student spaces.

The project will run from early March through summer, and the new classrooms will open in September. Lower Level 1 will remain open for use during this project. The Computer Center and classrooms, snack lounge, adaptive computing rooms, and most of the 24-hour study areas will remain accessible.

Construction begins Wednesday, March 4. To minimize noise, most work will be restricted to the hours of 2am - 10am. We want this project to have the least possible impact on users, so work will be shut down during final exams.

We'll keep you informed of changes that might affect your work on the Lower Levels via our website and LibLink.

You can send any questions to: bobstrenovation@library.nyu.edu
