Intellectual Property and Electronic Resources

The development of electronic resources can raise a host of questions regarding the intellectual property status of works being digitized. While this is far too extensive a field to receive anything but cursory treatment here, the following documents should familiarize you with some of the issues you should be aware of when creating digital works.

  • NYU Handbook for Use of Copyrighted Materials
This document is intended to provide helpful information to members of the NYU community who use copyrighted materials in educational and research activities.
  • Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights
From the Digital Library Sunsite run by U.C. Berkeley Library, this page provides links to a wealth of resources discussing copyright, intellectual property, and digital resources.
  • General Information about Copyrights
Oppedahl and Larson LLP provide this page as a public service (pointedly not as legal advice). It provides a FAQ-like presentation of information regarding copyrights and patents.
  • United States Copyright Office
A great deal of useful material on copyright, including a Frequently Asked Questions Section.
