Friends of Bobst Library Access Information
Requirements to obtain a Friends Reader/Borrower card*:
- Friends of Bobst Library card holders must be at least 16 years of age.
- Payment - $175 minimum for alumni/neighborhood residents, $225 minimum for all others; additional $600 fee for borrowers**
- Government issued photo ID
- Proof of address (for neighborhood discount); if home address different than address on ID, one piece of mail with postmark less than one month old
- Proof of alumni status not required but will be checked upon gift processing
- Government issued photo ID
- Original or faxed letter from Michael Pittman stating access privileges
For forgotten, lost or stolen cards:
- Members are encouraged to use the same Friends card from year to year by placing a new renewal sticker on the front of each card.
- When an existing or past member signs up for a new membership year, they will not be charged if they require a new card, however members with current cards will receive expedited service.
- If a current member forgets their Friends card, they are allowed a day pass with a government issued photo ID. Members are allowed 3 day passes for a forgotten card per academic year.
- If a donor requires a new card because the current card is lost, they will be charged a $15 fee.
- If a donor requires a new card because the current card is stolen, they can contact Michael Pittman and ask for the $15 fee to be waived. A police report may be required. One day pass can be given if Michael can not be contacted immediately.
Revocation of membership privileges:
- Membership privileges and Friends' cards are not transferable. Library staff may confiscate a Friends card if they find someone else using or trying to use it.
- Friends' cards may be confiscated if the member does not abide by the Bobst Library Code of Conduct.
- Friends' cards may be confiscated if a member stays past Friends of Bobst Library hours of access.
- Members whose membership payments could not be processed or were found insufficient will be contacted for balance of payment. Friends' cards may be confiscated for non-payment or under-payment.
* Friends of Bobst Library Reader and Borrower privileges expire on August 31 of the academic year purchased. Full year memberships for the following academic year are available on May 1.
** Minimum gifts for Reading Privileges are prorated on January 1 ($150/$175) and May 1 ($100/$125). Borrower fees are reduced on January 1 ($450) and May 1 ($250). NYU alumni who have graduated within the past year can join the Friends of Bobst Library at the reduced rate of $45. However, they should give their gift online at library.nyu.edu/alumni.
